Meet the Founder:
Douglas Mainard
Founder & President, Landscape Lighting Resources
Landscape Lighting Resources wasn’t born in a boardroom; it was born in a backyard. In 2012, while searching for high-quality outdoor lighting for my own home in Charlotte, I was frustrated by the lack of transparency in the industry. I found a market plagued by outdated technology, questionable warranties, and pricing that didn’t match the quality of the hardware.
I knew there was a better way to serve the Charlotte community.
From Manufacturing to Master Design
Before founding Landscape Lighting Resources, I owned and operated a large-scale manufacturing and retail business in Ohio. That background gave me a unique “behind-the-curtain” understanding of sourcing, component durability, and the physics of LED technology.
I didn’t want to just be another contractor; I wanted to be a design partner for my clients. I applied my manufacturing expertise to directly source architectural-grade brass and copper fixtures and developed our proprietary 2700K LED bulbs to ensure our clients received a level of quality that “big-box” stores and general landscapers simply couldn’t provide.
The Vision: Quality, Design, and Aftercare
Since 2012, I have led our team through over 3,000 installations across the Greater Charlotte region — from the high-profile grounds of the US National Whitewater Center to private family estates in Weddington.
My philosophy is simple: Lighting should be a permanent investment, not a temporary decoration. That is why I personally oversee our design standards and why we built our 6,000 sq. ft. Charlotte warehouse — to ensure we have the inventory and infrastructure to support our Award-Winning Aftercare for years to come.

As a local business owner, I take pride in seeing our work illuminate the neighborhoods we live in. Whether we are helping an HOA reduce liability through an LED retrofit or creating a “private sanctuary” for a backyard remodel, my goal remains the same: to provide the honesty, technical expertise, and superior customer care that I went looking for back in 2012.
